If you are preparing for provincial licensing, be careful with the “100 questions / 3 hours” number you may see online: that format is specific to the CSI LLQP Insurance Course assessments, not the provincial LLQP modular licensing exams.

The official BC Harmonized LLQP Examinee Information Guide describes the modular licensing exams used in BC. Other provinces/territories may use different providers and policies, so treat this as an example and confirm your own regulator’s current guidance.

This hub covers only the Life Insurance module. Depending on province and licence type, you may also need other LLQP modules (for example: Accident & Sickness, Segregated Funds & Annuities, and Ethics & Professional Practice — Common Law or Civil Code).

What LLQP Life Insurance is really testing

LLQP Life Insurance questions rarely reward pure memorization. They reward structured thinking:

• Needs first: identify the real risk (income replacement, debt, taxes at death, business continuity, final expenses).
• Constraints: budget, time horizon, underwriting realities, existing group coverage, family structure, ownership/beneficiary intent.
• Product fit: term vs permanent, riders, ownership structure, beneficiary choices.
• Recommendation integrity: can you explain “why this” and “why not the alternatives” clearly and consistently?

Common scenario patterns

• Capital needs at death: income replacement + debts + taxes + final expenses, less existing assets/coverage.
• Term vs permanent selection: time-limited needs vs lifelong needs; affordability vs guarantees; estate liquidity needs.
• Beneficiary/ownership pitfalls: minor beneficiaries, contingent beneficiaries, creditor protection misconceptions, family changes.
• Group vs individual coverage trade-offs: portability/convertibility, employer control, coverage limits, termination risk.
• Policy changes: reinstatement, loans/withdrawals/surrender, replacement considerations (high-level).

A practical prep strategy

1. Work the Syllabus as your daily checklist.
2. After each topic, do a short drill and keep a miss log (“What rule would have prevented this miss?”).
3. Review the Cheatsheet before every mixed set to reinforce patterns and pitfalls.
