GPM-b™ FAQ — Exam Format, Eligibility, and Prep

Quick answers to common GPM-b™ questions: eligibility, exam formats (RPL vs standard), passing score, references, and renewal basics.

Do I need prerequisites?

Per the requirements, there are no education or experience requirements, though at least six months working on projects is recommended. See: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/green-project-manager-basic-gpm-b

What’s the exam format?

The requirements describe two formats:

  • Without RPL: 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours
  • With RPL: 75 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes

What score do I need to pass?

The stated passing grade is at least 70% correct (requirements v3.1).

What should I study?

The exam is based on the references listed in the official requirements (including The GPM P5™ Standard for Sustainability in Project Management and Sustainable Project Management reference guidance). See: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/green-project-manager-basic-gpm-b

How long should I study?

Most candidates can prepare in 2–8 weeks, depending on how familiar you are with sustainability concepts, procurement/risk, and translating impacts into measurable objectives.

Use the Study Plan and keep a miss log to drive what you review next.

How do renewals work?

GPM-b validity is listed as five (5) years. Renewal options in the requirements include submitting a case study, demonstrating sustainability-related teaching/training hours (for educators/trainers), or retaking the exam.

Always confirm the current renewal requirements on the official pages before you plan your timeline.
