PMI-SP® Study Plan (30 / 60 / 90 Days)

A practical PMI-SP® study plan: 30-day intensive, 60-day balanced, and 90-day part-time schedules organized by PMI-SP domains.

This page answers the question most candidates actually have: “How do I structure my PMI‑SP® prep?” Pick a timeline, follow the loop, and keep a miss log.

The daily loop (45–90 minutes)

  1. Study 1–2 sections from the Syllabus (focus on decisions, not definitions).
  2. Do a short targeted drill in Practice (15–25 questions).
  3. Update your miss log: what you missed, why, and the rule you’ll apply next time.

30-day plan (intensive)

Week 1 — Schedule Strategy

  • Schedule configuration management, approach selection, and schedule management plan basics.
  • Integration points: scope/cost/resources/risk/procurement and how scheduling supports them.

Week 2 — Planning & Development (part 1)

  • WBS/OBS/control accounts/work packages.
  • Activity definition, estimating durations, sequencing, dependencies, constraints.

Week 3 — Planning & Development (part 2)

  • Critical/near-critical path, resource planning (RBS), leveling/smoothing, program alignment.
  • Milestone analysis and schedule risk analysis (what-if, Monte Carlo conceptually).

Week 4 — Monitoring/Control + Closeout + Comms

  • Status collection and validation, audits, what‑if optimization, change control, re-baselining discipline.
  • Closeout/archiving, stakeholder communications patterns, and mixed practice sets.

60-day plan (balanced)

Weeks 1–2 — Strategy + Planning foundations

  • Build strong fundamentals: logic, constraints, estimating, and baselining.

Weeks 3–4 — Planning depth

  • Critical path mastery + resource constrained scheduling + milestone realism + schedule risk.

Weeks 5–6 — Monitoring and controlling

  • Statusing discipline, audits, scenario analysis, change control, and re-baseline rules.

Weeks 7–8 — Closeout + Comms + consolidation

  • Closeout/archiving and stakeholder communication routines.
  • Mixed sets + targeted repair using the syllabus and miss log.

90-day plan (part-time)

Month 1 — Build the model

  • Strategy + planning basics (WBS/activities/logic/baseline).

Month 2 — Make it realistic

  • Resources, constraints, critical/near-critical paths, and schedule risk.

Month 3 — Control and communicate

  • Monitoring/control workflows + stakeholder updates + lots of mixed practice.
